Approximately 20 doctors got subpoenas due to Corey Haim`s death
The 80s heartthrob died earlier this month in his mother`s Los Angeles apartment. His official cause of death is pending toxicology results but California`s Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. has fuelled speculation he died of a prescription drug overdose. Four bottles of pills were found in his bedroom when he died, including one of painkiller Oxycontin that had been issued using a fraudulent prescription.
That medication has been linked to an illegal prescription drug ring, which saw people stealing the identities of doctors and using them to buy authorised prescription pads, which were then sold on to addicts or dealers.
It is believed the doctors in question did not know their identities had been stolen, but yesterday, approximately 20 of them were issued subpoenas as part of the California Attorney General?s investigation into Haim?s death, according to gossip website TMZ.com. The paperwork is a court order that will force the physicians to give evidence in any court cases about the star?s death. The doctors are reportedly from Los Angeles, Orange County and Ventura County in California and seven of them have already sworn they never met Haim.
The actor`s official cause of death is expected to be announced in the next few weeks. His mother Judy has contradicted drug overdose claims, insisting her son died of pulmonary congestion after an autopsy revealed he had an enlarged heart and fluid in his lungs at the time of his death.
